Passion, Performance, and Progress define our mission at the Edo State Sports Commission. We’re dedicated to cultivating a vibrant sports culture within Edo State, where athletes of all levels can excel, spectators can relish thrilling moments, and our community can come together to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.
The Commission was created to develop and administer sports in the State. It was formerly known as the Edo State Sports Council. It became the Edo State Sports Commission through an act dated 18th August 2021. It has a 7-man board which was inaugurated on the 11th of March, 2022. The administrative headquarters is located at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City. 34 sports associations are operating under the commission.

Organize sporting events and competitions
Facilitate sports infrastructure development
Collaborate with stakeholders to advance sports in the state
Formulate and implement Edo State Sports Policy and create innovative means for the promotion of sports in Edo State
Train coaches and sports administrators, promote mass participation in all forms of sports, encourage and facilitate investments in the establishment of private sports academies for research and talent developmen
Collate with sports industry stakeholders, Ministry of Education and other relevant MDAs to develop schools’ sports
Regulate and supervise activities of the State Sports Associations, Local Government Sports Committees and all other sporting activities within the State
Provide financial support and opportunities to sports organizations, clubs, schools and associations to enhance capacity to organize and host sporting programs;
Develop and manage the Commission’s sports facilities and assets in the State
Promote the use of sports as a tool for social, economic and tourism development to position Edo State as the foremost destination in sports tourism in Nigeria
